Mamelodi Sundowns supporters can’t wait for the return of Pitso Mosimane
Mamelodi Sundowns are apparently in serious talks with Pitso Mosimane about bringing him back as head coach. According to people familiar with the situation, conversations kicked off earlier this week after the team’s recent rough patch started raising red flags with management

The reigning DStv Premiership champions have owned South African football for nearly a decade, but this season? It’s been a struggle. Even with a stacked squad and all the tactical know-how you’d expect, the Brazilians just haven’t found their rhythm. A couple of back-to-back losses have fans calling for something, anything, to change.
Enter Mosimane. The man who led Sundowns to five league titles and that unforgettable 2016 CAF Champions League trophy. For a lot of supporters, he’s the obvious choice to bring back some stability and fire up the locker room. His résumé speaks for itself, both here and abroad. He’s one of the most respected names in African football, period.
Word on the street is that Sundowns’ top brass think Mosimane’s return could flip a switch, get the team back to that winning mindset, and remind everyone what the club is really about. “Talks have been positive,” one source said. “Both sides are interested, but there are still some financial and structural things to iron out.”
Since leaving Sundowns in 2020, Mosimane went on to coach Al Ahly in Egypt, where he won two more CAF Champions League titles, then moved to Al Wahda in the UAE. Right now, he’s a free agent, which makes the timing pretty much perfect for a reunion.
Fans are all over the place on social media. Some are buzzing at the thought of Jingles coming home. Others think the club should stick with the current setup and give them more time to figure it out. The technical team, led by Rhulani Mokwena, has been under serious pressure, especially after falling short in continental competitions.
Club officials aren’t saying much publicly, but if things keep moving, an announcement could come soon.
If this actually happens, Mosimane’s return could be the reset button Sundowns need, a fresh start aimed at getting back on top, not just in South Africa but across Africa.
With rumours alleging that Pitso Mosimane could be in talks over a potential return to Mamelodi Sundowns, the Siya crew has the latest on the litigation appeal case between the club and coach.
Mosimane’s relationship with The Brazilians soured before and after his departure in September 2020 to join Al Ahly, shortly after he had signed a new four-year contract.
The Tshwane giants took the former Bafana Bafana coach and the agency representing him, owned by his wife, Moira Tlhagale, MT Sports, to court, demanding to be paid back a portion of the agent commission fees, which were paid in advance.
The high-profile case, which was heard at the South Gauteng High Court, with Sundowns claiming back almost R8 million from the above agents’ commission fees had a judgment in favour of perennial Betway Premiership champions in September last year.
The civil claim case centred around the clawback clause, which allegedly stipulated that The Brazilians would be refunded the commission paid to the agency within six months for the remaining period Mosimane was no longer the head coach, while MT Sports argued that the clause was against policy and unconstitutional.
Tlhagale also testified that the clawback clause was discriminatory against her gender and race, in comparison to other top agents in the industry.
“The agreement was beneficial to him, and he was aware of the consequences of signing the agreement and the rights and obligations it contained,” Judge Shaanaz Mia said in part, in her ruling.
“Whilst Ms Tlhagale related the clawback clause was applicable to her gender and race, the clawback clause was applicable to both the intermediary and employment contracts where it applied irrespective of gender,” she said.
MT Sports immediately filed an appeal through their legal representatives Mabuza Attorneys and Soccer Laduma can confirm that the appeal case is going ahead amidst rumours linking Mosimane with talks over a potential return as a head coach.
“It’s going ahead on the 14th of January, in fact we’re trying to finalise the time with the (court), as far as I know it’s going ahead,” Attorney Eric Mabuza of Mabuza Attorneys told the Siya crew on Monday.
