WHY ORLANDO PIRATES NEED MOSELE BACK?
Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou recently spoke of how Orlando Pirates players struggled physically to cope or compete with the physicality of FC Lupopo players as they were eliminated by the Dr Congo side during preliminary rounds of Caf champions league last season and it’s clear that Mosele’s combination of technical quality and boisterous physicality it’s an exact profile that the team needs going into next especially competing in the continental competition. The Towering central midfielder has the continental experience after helping Bucs reach the Caf confederations cup final under the tutelage of coaching duo of Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids.
With the future of combative Makhehleni Makhaula uncertain at this stage, Sihle Nduli, Thalente Mbatha Selepe remains options at the back of midfield with Isaac Cisse from Golden Arrows strongly linked but none of this players should reduce the chance of Mosele forming part of the squad because his ability to impose his Towering frame in box boxes, it’s something that none of his current competitors in that Bucs midfield does it better than him. I was shocked to see him out of the match day squad when Bucs played Pyramids FC away in the second leg of the semifinals because when he was needed, Jose Riveiro opted for Dlamini and Tito that didn’t do anything to help the team defend better as they were leading on away goal in that match.
Mosele is not a “chicken” but one hell of a midfielder who’s not afraid to engage physically against anyone and also provides a threat on set pieces in the opposition box and the team has been very wasteful on set pieces as they lacked someone to impose himself and get to the end of things in a crowded box and Mosele’s proclivity to attack the far post undetected, can add more goal threat to the team while also offering defensive solidity defensive on set pieces. Orlando Pirates looked solid on defending set pieces until they played Caf champions league and were badly exposed and hopefully, Mosele will be seen as one of the missing pieces of the puzzle going into next season.
PIRATES NEED TOP SIGNINGS TO BE COMPETITIVE AGAIN
The signings of Oswin Appolis, Tshepang Moremi and Lebone Seema amongst others, have shown what can happen when right players are brought in and played in the right system that magnifies their strengths. After winning the first treble under Ruud Krol, Bucs brought in Benni McCarthy a world class attacker who came and helped the team to win another treble the following season and it’s something that should happen again by adding top quality to sustain dominance and success. It remains a wishful thinking to try and dry today’s laundry with Yesterday’sun and that’s why it’s important to ensure that complacency of winning the league doesn’t stop the club to add more quality.
The team is bad on converting set pieces and a game against Durban City reminded the management of what they need to do. Defensively, it looks as if we have it all covered but Caf champions league has its own way of exposing any vulnerability with brutality of the highest order as we witnessed in during the last season of Jose Riveiro. Set pieces plays an important role in the Caf champions league defensive and offensively because games can be very tight and left to be decided on set pieces and normally, it’s those who are able to defend them well and convert them at the other end of the pitch that wins.
You don’t need the tallest of players to win aerial duels to score set pieces and the perfect example it’s Terrence Dzvukamanja who was not the tallest of players but was so intelligent and instinctive even in a crowded box to create a yard of space for himself and score. Defensively, players must have fire and desire to win aerial balls and clear with height and distance and unfortunately, this will only be tested during the Caf champions league and must be prepared for.
GRAVITY- DEFYING MOMENT BY WILLIAMS
Tears couldn’t stop flowing from my eyes while watch Ronwen Williams asking for the coach to introduce Skipper and legendary Themba “Mshishi” Zwane during the last seconds of the Caf champions league final against AS FAR on Sunday evening in Morocco. There’s a lesson of humility and just being a good person because one can recall that it’s Williams who asked Coach Hugo Broos to hand Melusi Buthelezi and Relebohile Mofokeng their national team debut. This is not acting because acting has an expiry date but “Ronza” shown this consistently and that speaks volume because it’s clearly his character. Coach Steve Komphela once said that “Football it’s a microscopic reflection of the society” and surely the community that the Bafana Bafana captain is coming from in PE should count themselves very blessed.
Even in our churches we are still struggling to find men and women with such humility and I can only hope that this will encourage us to honor and respect others especially those who walked or paved the way for us since that can never dim our light but can only makes it shine even brighter. May Ronwen Williams multiply in our country so that we can have better societies. Williams is a book that requires one to read and meditate on prayerfully so that one can have higher chances of being transformed and eventually transform their societies. Normally when glory beckons, not many consider others. We’ll done Skipper for being a good representative of our country in the mist of chaos taking place in various provinces of this beautiful country.
