Deon Hotto is a rock for Orlando Pirates with 300+ games
He must have inherited some very good genes from his parents and magnify that with his good lifestyle taking care of his body while working hard at training to ensure that he remains in top condition always to be there for the team whenever and wherever they need him the most. Deon Hotto is not only a Namibian legend but has also earned himself black and white stripes as legend of Orlando Pirates Football Club. Though being a legend in South African football it’s a term that has been abused a lot because every former professional player is called a legend, when it comes to the man from Swakopmund there’s no axeggeration in declaring him PSL and Orlando Pirates Football Club legend.
Hotto came to Orlando Pirates from Bidvest wits as one of the most hard working players in the league and had his hard work not lacked some luck at Pirates, should be having at least one league medal and Caf confederations cup gold medals but it wasn’t to be though there are realistic chances of adding a league title to multiple cup finals he has won for Orlando Pirates Football Club. The former Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic and now defunct Bidvest wits versatile player, has been a regular first penalty taker for the club over the years during the shootout and because he has converted 97% from the 12 yards, gave his teammates more confidence to step up and convert and in recent times, the team gained more success with him in the team.
As I said many times previously, some players are lucky to arrive at the club when the team is wining trophies because they get medals without breaking any sweat on the pitch but for a player like Deon Hotto, contributed massively for all the trophies Bucs won since he arrived at the club playing 90 and 120 minutes in the process and his consistent high work rate, unwavering commitment and unswerving focus saw him play regularly under all the coaches at Pirates and by the time Jose Riveiro left Bucs, he was the most used player by the Spanish tactician and that can be by luck.
Hotto like his compatriot at Mamelodi Sundowns, Peter Shalulile, they have been great ambassadors of Namibia in PSL and are players that came and improve our league. At Orlando Pirates over the years, there have been players more technically gifted than Deon Hotto but none of them has matched his commitment and hard work and that’s why he remains the last man standing after years of excellent service in the black and white jersey. At his, still outrun wingers a decade younger than him and that really says a lot about his capacity because according to his age, supposed to be in a serious decline especially playing out wide mostly as leftback but the man still going strong without giving any hint that is ready to retire and go to look after his livestock in his native Namibia. Congratulations the Hottest Deon on clocking the third century in PSL with the energy, commitment and hard work of the first century.
